Pregame Notes: Washington Capitals vs. St. Louis Blues

The Caps return home for the second of back to back games with a Super Bowl Sunday matinee against the St. Louis Blues. The Blues were waiting for the Caps in D.C while the Caps played the Canadians yesterday. Again with an afternoon game I will post the lineup when the game gets closer.

Game Notes:

*It is unknown if Braden Holtby will play back to back games today or if Justin Peters might get a game. After the way Holtby played yesterday I won't be surprised if we see him in again today against a tough team like St. Louis.

*The Caps will have their hands full today as Ken Hitchcock's team is a hard nosed, and very talented team. The Caps will have to match the Blues intensity right away, they will have to find their legs in the first period.

*Alex Ovechkin played well yesterday though he did not score, he will have a big part in today's game. If his line can put some pressure on the Blue defense then it will help the Caps cause.

*The Caps need to get two points today as they need to try to jump over the Rangers again who are playing great hockey of late. The Metro Division is very competitive, however if the Caps keep accumulating points the farther away the Panthers will be and the Caps will be in good shape in the playoff race.

*The Blues have a solid defense and Brian Elliot is playing great this season. Arguably the Blues are the second best team in the Western Conference. The Caps will have to play a heavy game and cycle the puck and get traffic in front of the net. Brian Elliot can't stop what he can't see.

*The Caps have to be solid on the defensive end and keep the Blues shooters to the outside and have to box out guys going for rebounds.

*Overall this will be a good test for the Caps after a tough loss yesterday they get to play in front of the home crowd. The Blues are a good team but the Caps have to play desperate because every game and every point is important as we start the month of February.
