Postgame Recap: Caps 2 Sens 1

The Caps got a strong effort from their PK and Braden Holtby shutdown the Sens for a second win in row. Evgeny Kuznetsov and Alex Ovechkin would score back to back goals after falling behind 1-0 in the second period. Here are the Highlights.

Caps/Sens Highlights:

My Thoughts:

*The Caps did not stay out of the box last night but the PK was able to kill off 6 powerplays in a row as the Sens didn't get called for a penalty till late in the 3rd period.

*Braden Holtby was locked in again and it will be interesting to see if Barry Trotz wants to play him again tonight at home against the Ducks or with three games in four day if he will have Justin Peters play tonight.

*Evgeny Kuznetsov has played well lately as he was able to score on a rebound right after the Sens took a 1-0 lead.

*Alex Ovechkin was able to score to put the Caps up 2-1 on a puck that he batted out of mid air infront of the net. For OV it was goal number 32 on the season and he is tied with the Rangers Rick Nash for the NHL lead.

*The Caps as a whole were very solid defensively lead by Brooks Orpik who remains to be very consistent on the back end. Scary moment though as Mike Green went knee to knee with Chris Phillips which is a penalty but wasn't called. Green went into the locker room but came back and played the rest of the game.

*Jason Chimera would return to the lineup last night as Aaron Volpatti did end up sitting this one out. Chimera has struggled at time this season with being demoted to the 4th line.

*Andre Burakovsky and Evgeny Kuznetsov have played with Troy Brouwer the last two game and I'm surprised that it's worked well. The young forwards have shown that they can play together and be defensively responsible.

*Overall it was a step closer to where they want to be with 2 points. There are 30 games left now and I think they are in good shape to make a playoff birth. However, a winning streak could put them in a position to contend for the Metro Division though I think that would be tough to do. You never say never though.
