Postgame Recap: Caps 3 Pens 1

The Caps ended their most important road trip of the season with 3 wins in 4 games. Finishing it with a  solid 3-1 win against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Joel Ward scored the game winner on a 5 on 3 to put the game away. Here are the Highlights.

Caps/Pens:

My Thoughts:

*Joel Ward as been quiet on the score sheet till last night's game winner. Ward has been very good as a two way forward.

*Nick Backstrom's pass to Ward was beautiful and that's why he is one of the best centers in the NHL. Though is is underrated by a lot of people but he has had a great season.

*Alex Ovechkin was great again playing a physical game and was able to score his 37th goal of the season to keep the goal scoring lead over Rick Nash.

*The Caps played with a purpose all night, they supported each other defensively and Braden Holtby was great. The Pens were able to finally score on Holtby but he still looked comfortable playing the Pens though they tried to get in his face a couple times.

*The Caps did a great job frustrating the Pens, the Caps were able to draw a couple of penalties and a hit on Joel Ward lead to the powerplay that eventually lead to Ward's winner.

*John Carlson added an empty net goal to finish the game off after the Pens made a push after the worst goalie interference penalty in the history of the NHL. I know the refs tried to make it even but to be honest the Pens penalties had to be called.

*The win brings the Caps a point away from the Rangers and Penguins for second in the Metro Division. Also it keeps them 10 up on the Panthers who are in 9th in the East so the Caps are in a comfortable position for now.

What's Next: Thurs. Feb. 19th vs. Winnipeg 7 p.m on CSN
