Postgame Recap: Caps 5 Canadians 4 SO

The Caps and Canadians played one heck of a game last night. A back and forth affair that ended when Troy Brouwer beat Carey Price high glove side to win in a shootout. Here are the highlights.

Caps/Habs:

My Thoughts:

*Alex Ovechkin scored two goals to get his total up to 52 on the season and is now the all-time leader in goals for the Washington Capitals. OV is having arguably his best season of his career.

*Joel Ward scored twice as well, once on a two on one with Evgeny Kuznetsov, the other came deflecting a John Carlson shot on the powerplay.

*Braden Holtby didn't have a perfect game but he was perfect in the shootout when the Caps needed it the most.

*Evgeny Kuznetsov got another assist and is continuing to accumulate points late in the season.

*The Caps were able to score 4 times on Carey Price which should give them confidence should the two teams meet down the road. Every game these two teams played this season has gone past 60 minutes.

*With the win the Caps are for now in 2nd place in the Metro Division, though they are tied with the Islanders and only a point up on the Pens. I didn't think this was possible a month ago but it looks like the Caps do indeed have a chance to finish 2nd and have home ice for the first round of the playoffs.

*The Ottawa Senators won do the Caps magic number is down to 4 to clinch a playoff berth, so if I am correct the Caps can clinch in Ottawa Saturday by beating the Sens in regulation. However, as long as the Caps get two points they will be fine either way.

*Overall a huge win against an Eastern Conference power on the road. That means in a week the Caps have beaten the top two teams in the East both in the opposing arena. That my friends will build confidence going into a playoff run.

What's Next: Saturday April 4th at. Ottawa 7:00 p.m on CSN
