Game 1 Recap: Islanders 4 Caps 1 (NYI leads 1-0)

Well it was a rough night for the Caps tonight as their effort was not good enough. While the Islanders behind two goals by Brock Nelson and a good showing by Jaro Halak.

Caps/Islanders Game 1:

My Thoughts:

*The Caps as a team did not play well enough in all phases of the game. They turned pucks over, passes were not connecting tonight. It was just a frustrating game overall.

*Marcus Johansson was one player I thought played very well. He was finishing checks as well as getting the Caps only goal.

*Halak played well for the Islanders however the Caps did not have much sustained pressure and very little traffic infront of him.

*Braden Holtby didn't have one of his strongest game, he has come up big all season for the Caps when needed. He will need to be Friday.

*John Carlson has had a great season this season but this was not one of his better games. Turnovers along just looked lost at times. The Caps need him if they are going to find a way to win Friday night.

*Overall this is one game and plenty of teams that go deep in the playoffs lose their first games. This series is going to be a battle and the Caps need to win Friday.

*The Caps have responded to adversity a number of times this season, this is the toughest piece of adversity they have faced to date. For the players hopefully they just throw this one out the window and focus on Game 2. That's all they can do.
