Postgame Recap: Caps 4 Hurricanes 2

The Caps played a solid game at home on Tuesday night and were able to get the magic number down to 7 points to clinch a playoff spot and are just a point behind the Islanders and Penguins for second in the Metro Division. Here are the highlights.

Caps/Canes:

My Thoughts:

*Alex Ovechkin scored goal number 50 and is now tied with Peter Bondra for the Caps all time lead in goals. Ovechkin has had a special career and looks to continue his solid play to get the Caps back in the playoffs.

*Evgeny Kuznetsov continues to get better has he assisted on OV's 50th and Joel Ward's second period goal to put the game away.

*The Line of Eric Fehr, Jason Chimera, and Brooks Laich seem to be finding good chemistry together as they played a solid game and Brooks Laich was able to score his 7th goal of the season.

*Defensively the Caps had two breakdowns on Carolina's goals but overall not a bad game for the defense corp who got another goal last night from Mike Green.

*Braden Holtby played a solid game and at times made huge saves to keep the momentum in the Caps favor.

*Tuesday the Caps signed University of Minnesota prospect Travis Boyd to his 2 year entry level contract. The Caps drafted Boyd in 2011 and has improved every year at the Caps rookie camps.

*Overall another two points in the standing the Caps had to get. Things will get tougher in the last five games but the Caps have put themselves in a good position going into those games. They are inching closer to a return to the postseason.
