Pregame Notes: Washington Capitals vs. Pittsburgh Penguins

The Caps are back at the Verizon Center against the Pittsburgh Penguins who will have their superstar Sidney Crosby back in the lineup and new pest Max Lapierre. The Caps are in a must win situation tonight after losing 4 in a row, and 3 in regulation. With that said 2 points will put them back in third place in the Metro Division. Here is tonight's lineup.

Forwards:

Ovechkin-Backstrom-Beagle
Johansson-Kuznetsov-Brouwer
Laich-Fehr-Ward
Chimera-Latta-Wilson

Defense and Goalies:

Orpik-Carlson
Alzner-Niskanen
Hillen-Green

Holtby
Peters

Other Notes:

*Jay Beagle will go from the 4th line to the top line tonight. Andre Burakovsky looks to be a healthy scratch tonight.

*With Burakovsky out Michael Latta looks to to be centering the 4th line with Jason Chimera and Tom Wilson. Barry Trotz was not happy with the 4th line last night so here is the biggest change from Columbus.

*Evgeny Kuznetsov had a good game last night, we will see if he can build off of that game.

*Evgeni Malkin is on the IR however, Sidney Crosby is back just in time to face the Caps tonight.

*Braden Holtby will indeed start on back to back nights. We will see what happens this weekend when the Caps play back to back again.

*The Caps again need to try to stay out of the penalty box. The last time these two teams met the Caps played very well. They have to get back to what they were doing well before this current losing skid.

*Caps defense has to be better, they have not been very good the last 4 games. Before that they were very good, but giving up 4 or more goals is not how you will win.

*Overall this is a huge game for the Caps, not only to jump into 3rd and get closer to Pittsburgh in the standings. But this is a chance to turn the tide back into the right direction. Should be a fun game between these two rivals.

Gametime 8 p.m on NBCSN
