Postgame Recap: Caps 2 Avalanche 1

The Caps got another strong effort from Braden Holtby and a GWG from Alex Ovechkin to beat a hot Semyon Varlamov and the Avalanche. Here are the highlights.

Caps/Aves Highlights:

My Thoughts:

*Jay Beagle continued his strong season with scoring the first goal in the first period. Beagle has been a very good 4th liner for the Caps this season.

*Tom Wilson was able to pick up an assist on the Beagle goal, but it was his drawn penalty on Varly that lead to OV's goal on the powerplay.

*Speaking of Alex Ovechkin he continues to be on fire with his 22nd goal of the season on the powerplay. It would be Ovechkin's 74th career game winning goal which passed Caps great Peter Bondra.

*Braden Holtby was great once again, with the injury to Jimmy Howard I think Holts should be considered a replacement for the All-Star Game. The Caps are on a hot streak because of how well he is playing.

*He may not have scored but it was the best we have seen Evgeny Kuznetsov all season. He had scoring chance after scoring chance and was skating great. If he played like that more in the second half of the season he will start scoring more.

*The Caps defense did a great job on the Aves fast skaters, they kept them to the outside for the most part.

*The Caps really could have won this game by more but Semyon Varlamov and the goal post got in the way a lot. However, the Caps overcame a hot goalie and still earned two big points.
