Pregame Notes: Washington Capitals at. Detroit Red Wings

The Caps will see an old friend tonight as they are at Joe Louis Arena to take on Mike Green and the Detroit Red Wings. Here is the lineup based on the morning skate.

Forwards:

Ovechkin-Kuznetsov-Oshie
Johansson-Backstrom-Burakovsky
Chimera-Beagle/Latta-Williams
Laich-Stephenson-Wilson

Defense and Goalies:

Orpik-Carlson
Alzner-Niskanen
Orlov-Schmidt

Holtby
Grubauer

Other Notes:

*Jay Beagle will be a game time decision because of an apparent upper body injury. If he can't go then Michael Latta will take his spot and Chandler Stephenson will also be in.

*Braden Holtby will be in tonight and it looks like the Red Wings will go with Jimmy Howard.

*After a solid game Saturday with the third line Justin Williams will stay down with them while Andre Burakovsky will remain with the other Swedes.

*There is a chance that Brooks Laich might see some time at center tonight if Jay Beagle can't play. That would just result in Michael Latta moving to wing.

*Overall this should be a fun test for the Caps as the Red Wings have a new coach but still have plenty of talent. It will be weird to see Mike Green in a Red Wing uniform, but it was time for him as well as the Caps to move on.

*Nate Schmidt and Dmitry Orlov are starting to find chemistry together which is a good thing for the Caps. I am no longer nervous about them being on the ice, especially Orlov seems to have found his game again.

*The Caps bottom six needs to be more consistent, so I will be keeping my eye on Brooks Laich, Tom Wilson, Michael Latta, and Chandler Stephenson tonight. Should be a good test against the Wings.
