Postgame Recap: Caps 2 Panthers 1 OT

Last night the Caps got their first taste of 3 on 3 overtime in a regular season game. After a little back and forth Evgeny Kuznetsov made a beautiful move to beat the defender and put the puck past Al Montoya and the Caps leave Florida with two points.

My Thoughts:

*For the second night in a row the Caps were in a low scoring battle but again they come out with a win. They have shown in the first ten games that they can win in a variety of ways.

*The Russian Trio of Evgeny Kuznetsov, Alex Ovechkin, and Dmitry Orlov had a great shift in overtime which lead to the winning goal. That was a good line combo for an overtime.

*Philipp Grubauer had a very good game last night, he didn't play well in Edmonton. However there were times last night that the Panthers had good chances but Grubauer made big saves. The final line is he had 26 saves on 27 shots.

*Barry Trotz changed the lines up a ton last night, he said he wanted a worker on every line. Jay Beagle who I consider on of the hardest workers on the team tied the game in the third period.

*Chandler Stephenson ended back in the lineup last night, Michael Latta and Nate Schmidt were the healthy scratches.

*Alex Ovechkin quietly added two assists last night, he has been accumilating points at a good rate so far this season.

*Justin Williams got an assist on the Beagle goal. They were put together with Alex Ovechkin for a few shifts and it paid off last night as they were able to find a way to get the puck past Montoya who had a solid game last night.

*Overall the Panthers are a hard working team that has played the Caps tough the last couple of seasons so last night's two points were a big two points. So, with the win the Caps move into a tie with the Rangers for first place in the Metropolitan Division. The Caps will have a couple days off then off the the Big Apple for a rematch with the Rangers.
