Postgame Recap: Caps 2 Red Wings 1 OT

The Caps once again where in a low scoring battle with the Red Wings, as Petr Mrazek was once again great in net. However, the Caps were able to take them down in overtime behind a goal from Evgeny Kuznetsov to leave Joe Louis Arena with a win.

My Thoughts:

*The Caps did not have the quick start I was hoping for as 2:48 in Red Wings young star Dylan Larkin beat Braden Holtby to give the Wings a early 1-0 lead. The Caps need again to have better starts to games as the season moves on.

*The Caps had four first period power plays and where finally able to break through when Justin Williams redirected a slap pass from Matt Niskanen to tie the game 1-1. Nick Backstrom got the second assist.

*Braden Holtby had a solid game stopping 25 of 26 shots, however it was his two stops on breakaways that prevented the Red Wings from taking over the game.

*Evgeny Kuznetsov made a great play in the overtime to score the winner just 0:45 into the 3 on 3 session. For Kuzzy it is goal number 6 on the season and his second overtime winner. Matt Niskanen and Karl Alzner assisted.

*Overall it was a hard nosed close game, much like the first meeting last week. The difference is that the Caps were able to find a way to beat Petr Mrazek and come home with two points. Again in the Metro every point is important so it was good to get two points to move back into sole possession of second place in the division.
