Postgame Recap: Pens 4 Caps 3 OT

On Thursday night the Caps spotted the Pens 3 goals, and it looked like it would be a run away. However, the mounted a comeback and took over the game. However, like Tuesday they lost during the 3 on 3 overtime when public enemy Sidney Crosby beat Braden Holtby on a breakaway.

My Thoughts:

*Another bad start, as defensive breakdowns once again cost the Caps as the Pens first two goals Matt Cullen was open and Holtby had no help.

*The Caps did mount a comeback and it started with two goals by Marcus Johansson, his 16th and 17th goals of the season. One the first goal Andre Burakovsky and John Carlson got assists, on the second Matt Niskanen and Evgeny Kuznetsov assist.

*Then the Caps started to play the way they should play and then John Carslon found Andre Burakovsky for a tip in and the Caps would tie it 3-3. Justin Williams also got an assist.

*In overtime the Caps would get a couple of chances but then on a line chance Kris Letang found a wide open Crosby who would come in alone and beat Braden Holtby.

*With that it looks like Holtby and Grubauer will split this weekend which is the right thing to do in my opinion. However, I am disappointed with how the players played in front of Holts the last two games.

*The Caps have been inconsistent lately and we all hope its just that they are bored with the regular season and are going to be better next week. However, I can't lie I am a little worried about how things are going because they should have these things figured out.

*Overall I did like the Caps fight to come back and get the game to overtime, however again they put themselves in a hole. We know the Caps can win in a lot of different ways but what I am concerned about is they are finding ways to lose right now. We will see if they can do better over the weekend.
