Game 3 Recap: Caps 6 Flyers 1 (WSH leads series 3-0)

The Caps were able to take a strangle hold of their 1st Round best of seven series again their rival Flyers in Monday night. After the Flyers scored first the Caps took it to them, winning by a lop sided score of 6-1.

My Thoughts:

*Flyers came out hard as Michael Raffl scored only 0:57 into the game and the Well Fargo center was going nuts. However that would be pretty much all their fans had to cheer about.

*Later in the 1st the Caps would score on the power play as Marcus Johansson deflected a shot from John Carlson to tie it 1-1, Nick Backstrom got the secondary assist.

*In the second the game was even but at the 8:50 mark Alex Ovechkin beat Steve Mason to make it 2-1, this after T.J Oshie caused a turnover and Nick Backstrom chipped the puck ahead to OV who scored his 2nd of the playoffs.

*Things went south for the Flyers in the 3rd as a dump in by Justin Williams hit the glass in a weird way that made the puck come to Evgeny Kuznetsov who was wide open. Kuzy scored his 1st of the playoffs to make it 3-1, Williams and Holtby got the assists.

*On another power play John Carlson made it 4-1 with a blast past Steve Mason, Ovechkin and Williams the assists.

*Then the Flyers showed themselves as a cheap shot by Pierre-Edouard Bellamare fro hitting Dmitry Orlov from behind was the first, then Ryan White and Radko Gudas were tossed from the game as well as White came in late, and Gudas just started punching Andre Burakovsky who is not a fighter and wasn't even doing anything.

*The Caps would do the right thing and take it to the Flyers from there as Alex Ovechkin scored his 3rd of the playoffs and 2nd of the game from Carlson and Oshie. Then Trotz gave some of the hard working guys power play time and Jay Beagle scored his 2nd of the playoffs on the PP from Nate Schmidt and Dmitry Orlov. The Caps had 5 on 3 time because the fans threw plastic braclets on the ice.

*Braden Holtby gave up the first goal but was great the rest of the night stopping 31 of 32 shots. Holts has been great the whole series and has been a difference maker.

*Brooks Orpik left the game in the 2nd period with a upper-body injury sustained when Ryan White hit him in a awkward position. Trotz said he would be reevaluated later today and lets hope it isn't serious.

*The Flyers gave the best power play in the league 9 power plays last night, the Caps scored 5 times. The Flyers had plenty of power play chances once again, didn't score. The cheap stuff is all the Flyers can do to try to remain in this series they don't belong in. I have been civil about this team, but after last night they got what they deserved. It's one thing to be physical its another to be embarrassing, but at the end of the day the Caps are up 3-0, and that is what counts.

*Overall I am proud that the Caps have kept their composer even though they are being targeted. The let the Flyers hurt themselves. Good teams make them pay and thats what the Caps did. Now the Caps will try to to sweep the Flyers and just get out of Philly.
