Postgame Recap: Islanders 4 Caps 3 OT

The Caps had the game under control on Tuesday night, until they took off the gas petal and gave up 3 goals in a row. This included a overtime goal by Islanders defensemen Thomas Hickey that won the game and clinched a playoff berth for them.

My Thoughts:

*Alex Ovechkin had a great game as he scored two goals that now puts him at 47 for the season. It was good to see him have a game like that as he has been a bit quiet lately. However, last night he looked like he was into the game and he had chances to score even more than he did.

*T.J Oshie had a great game as well with a goal and 2 assists, he is now up to 26 goals on the season. For Oshie it appears that he is heating up of late which will be important come playoff time.

*Braden Holtby would fail to get to 48 wins last night, as he made 24 saves on 27 shots. Two goals at least were goals that we lucky for the Islanders. The first goal by John Tavares, Holtby missed with his glove. The second goal from Kyle Okposo was off a bounce of the end boards. Both of those goals were fluke.

*The Caps controlled the game and had a 3-1 lead in the third period. However they stopped playing and the Islanders were desperate to clinch a playoff spot. It's those things that are making me worry a bit about the Caps. They need to pay 60 minutes and start getting use to it.

*Overall last nights game was a frustrating game because the Caps showed for much of the night they can control the Islanders. However, the Islanders showed the Caps that they have a no quit attitude. That is why the Islanders won the game they just simply wanted it more. It was a lost opportunity for the boys to help Braden Holtby as well but they in my opinion let him down. We will see if they can rebound but they have now lost 3 of 4 and that is not good going into the postseason.
