Postgame Recap: Coyotes 3 Caps 0

The Caps went into Glendale looking to continue their solid play from the previous two games. Instead they were lifeless and got shutout by the Coyotes.

My Thoughts:

*Phillip Grubauer was good the first two period of the game, but once again he got 0 goal support. The first two goals he gave up were on bounces that went the Coyotes way.

*The Caps continue to hit the post quite a bit, as after they went down 2-0 they hit the post twice on a power play. Once off the stick of Alex Ovechkin, the other from Dmitry Orlov.

*The biggest problem the Caps had last night is they continue to pass too much. There were a number of times where they had good looks at the net but tried a pass instead of simply shooting the puck for a chance. In Colorado they shot the puck, and thats one of the reasons why they played so well.

*Mike Smith did look good last night, as the few chances the Caps did have he was up to the task. The Caps seemed to have issues with his ability to play the puck as well.

*Nick Backstrom remained out of the lineup last night due to the upper body injury. I am hoping he will be back this week but it will be a day to day think to see if he makes progress. Again the most important thing is being healthy for the playoffs.

*Overall last night ended up being a waste of time, the team played its 3rd game in 4 days. They looked like it, they did not have much life in their game and the result showed it. So, that now brings us to the last week of the regular season. We will see how they handle it.

What's Next: Tues. April 5th vs. New York Islanders 7:00 p.m on CSN
