The Caps will look to shut down Nassau Coliseum today and advance to take on the New York Rangers in Round 2, while the Islanders look to force a Game 7 at Verizon Center on Monday night. It will be a battle till the end. Here is the lineup based on what Barry Trotz said to the media.
Forwards:
Ovechkin-Backstrom-Ward
Johansson-Kuznetsov-Chimera
Burakovsky-Beagle-Brouwer
Laich-Latta-Wilson
Defense and Goalies:
Orpik-Carlson
Alzner-Niskanen
Gleason-Green
Holtby
Grubauer
Other Notes:
*Braden Holtby has been huge for the Caps in net in this series. It appears he is getting better as the series goes on.
*The Islanders are hurting on the back end, it will be key for the Caps to play a north game and chip pucks deep. The Islander defense looked tired in Game 5 and if the Caps can wear them down today it will put a lot of pressure on Jaro Halak.
*The Caps have to try to quiet down the faithful in Nassau Coliseum, the way they have atleast a chance to do that is by scoring first and attacking the Islanders. They need to play a heavy game and try to cycle the puck like they did the other night.
*The Caps have to match the Islanders speed to by making them play defense, and finish checks.
*If Evgeny Kuznetsov and his line play like they did the other night then it will be huge for the Caps. It take the pressure off of Nick Backstrom and Alex Ovechkin when other guys can score.
*Overall there is not much to say expect that the Caps have a great opportunity to close down an historic arena. With all the times the Islanders broke the hearts of Caps fans, this would be a very meaningful win in the history of the Washington Capitals. Should be fun and stressful.
