Game 2 Recap: Caps 4 Islanders 3 (Series Tied 1-1)

Last night with a 2-0 series deficit staring the Caps right in the face, they turned the series around. After falling down 2-0 and 3-1 the Caps rallied for a dramatic 4-3 win to tie the series in front of a loud Verizon Center. This also with Philip Grubauer in net for a ailing Braden Holtby. Here are the highlights.

Caps/Isles Game 2:

My Thoughts:

*Nick Backstrom came up big last night with a goal and two assists, it was his goal on the powerplay in the third period that tied the game.

*Alex Ovechkin was able to score his first goal of the playoffs, and like the rest of the team played a much better game then in Game 1.

*Karl Alzner who has been chipping in more this season offensively scored a huge goal earlier in the game to make it 2-1, that was because of a dominant shift were the Caps had it in the Islanders zone.

*You need role players to come up big in the playoffs and Jason Chimera stepped up big time with his game winning goal in the third period. Again it happened because of a strong forecheck that lead to a turnover.

*Philip Grubauer did in fact end up playing, and I thought he got better as the game went on. Early it seemed he may have been a little bit shaky. However, he got stronger and the Caps defense helped him out more as well. So, congrats to Grubi for his first playoff win, he definitely stepped up in a big situation.

*The biggest thing that happened last night and it changed the game is the Caps established a sustain cycle and wore out the Islanders on a number of occasions. They were able to pressure the Islanders defense into turning the puck over. In the third period the Islanders were not able to get that many chances because of that.

*The Caps also made the most of the only powerplay they got last night, calls have been even in this series as both teams have had 3 powerplays in the two games they have played.

*Overall the effort was there last night, even from the start they were shooting the puck more. Also, they did not panic when they fell behind, they looked like a confident team that was not going to loss no matter what. Huge win, now time to go into the mad house that is Nassau Coliseum.
