Pregame Notes: Washington Capitals at. Montreal Canadians

The Caps are in Montreal for the first of back to back matinees. This is the first time the Caps have seen the Canadians since opening night in D.C on Oct. 9th which Montreal prevailed in a shootout. With it being a matinee their is no morning skate so I will post the lineup as soon as I find out. But here are some notes for today's game.

Game Notes:

*Carey Price will more than likely get the start in goal for the Canadians who are coming off a 1-0 win over the Rangers at MSG on Thursday.

*Eric Fehr has been on a roll for the Caps this season, again his line will have to set the tempo and try to keep the Canadians in their own zone.

*The Caps have to be aware of where P.K Subban is when the Canadians have the puck in the Caps zone. He has one of the best shots from the point in the NHL.

*The Caps took it to the Penguins physically on Wednesday and I believe if they do that against Montreal they will have a good chance to win again. When you set that kind of tone it goes a long way.

*I expect Braden Holtby to start today but again it is unknown what Barry Trotz will do as the Blues come to town tomorrow.

*Alex Ovechkin now leads the league in goals with 29, but it's how he is playing overall that is making this run for the Rocket Richard Trophy more impressive. In my opinion this is the best OV we have ever seen. That included the 65 goal season of 2007-2008, because he is become a two way player. Some people may disagree but those are people that don't watch the Caps on a consistent basis and are uneducated on the fact.

*The Caps defensive corp got back on track on Wednesday, and if they can limit turnovers and stay out of the penalty box then that will go along way in helping the Caps earn two points today.

*Mike Green has quietly been very effective for the Caps this season. Though his name is coming up in some trade rumors this will be a hard decision for GM Brian MacLellan. However, Green has played very well on the powerplay being the main setup guy for OV's one timers.

*Overall today's game should be a good one has it is always fun to watch a game in Montreal. Big opportunity for the Caps to continue to push toward a playoff birth with 34 games left in the regular season.
