Caps/Panthers Highlights:
My Thoughts:
*The Caps played a solid game overall, in the 2nd period they hit a wall but after Brooks Laich tied the game the energy was back.
*Andre Burakovsky scored a big goal that would end up being the difference. Burakovsky played with OV and Backstrom on the top line. I think he showed enough to stay in the lineup a little longer. However, I think Michael Latta might come back when the Caps go to Philly.
*Karl Alzner's goal was a product of hard work by Eric Fehr to force the turnover and then Brooks Laich and Joel Ward screened Roberto Luongo.
*Matt Niskanen took a shot to the leg, and according to the Caps staff he will be day to day. It is unclear what that means for the upcoming back to back road games this week.
*Braden Holtby played another solid game, the first two goals he gave up were bad bounces. The goal Holts gave up late in the third was a tough shot to stop.
*I thought that Jay Beagle played very well, he is having perhaps his best hockey of his career this year.
*The Caps penalty kill came up big once again as they were able to kill a 5 on 3 in the third period. That could have been a difference after the goal the Panthers scored late in the game.
*Overall the Caps continue to accumulate points and the Oilers helped by beating the Islanders last night. The Caps have only three games left till they reach the halfway point and they are finding their stride.
