Postgame Recap: Panthers 5 Caps 2

The Caps were able to get off to a good start on Tuesday as they put pressure on Al Montoya and the Panthers. However, after two failed 5 on 3's the Panthers got one of their own and scored right away on it and then built a 4-0 lead. The Caps tried to rally but it was too much of a deficit.

My Thoughts:

*The Caps power play was terrible last night. Goes to show you how important Alex Ovechkin and Marcus Johansson really are to this team.

*Nick Backstrom was able to score early in the third to make it 4-1, and then Andre Burakovsky scored  a little over a minute later to give the Caps life but again they didn't put themselves in a position to get closer.

*The Panthers defense as well as Al Montoya stole the show, the Caps out shot the Panthers 38-19. However there were no second chances on Montoya.

*Evgeny Kuznetsov had another two assist game.

*Philipp Graubauer was not great last night, I thought that at least two goals he gave up are goals that NHL goalies need to stop. Grubi needs to find his game because Trotz needs to rest Holtby here and there down the stretch to have him ready.

*Overall I am not happy with the way the last two games have gone. I do think it has a lot to do with the blizzard postponing two games, as well as the All-Star break has ended momentum this team had. Now it is time for them to get it going again this week as they finally have a week that will be normal.

What's Next: Thursday Feb. 4th vs. New York Islanders 7:30 p.m on NBCSN
