Game 3 Recap: Caps 1 Rangers 0 (WSH leads 2-1)

The Caps were able to take the series lead back after a hard fought win at Verizon Center Monday night. Jay Beagle scored the loan goal and Braden Holtby shut down the Rangers who kept coming in waves. The win marked the first time the Caps have won Game 3 of a series since the 2010 playoffs. Here are the highlights.

Caps/Rangers Game 3:

My Thoughts:

*The Caps needed a goal from the bottom six and with Jay Beagle's goal they got one. It was a little lucky has he threw it off Keith Yandle's skate but in the playoffs you take whatever you can get. Jay Beagle overall played a great game so it was nice to see him get one.

*Braden Holtby was dominant, he was calm during the sequences where the Rangers were putting heavy pressure on him. When he plays like that the Caps are hard to beat.

*Officiating was better till Rick Nash hit Brooks Orpik from behind. That play is a penalty in every single game this season expect for this one apparently. However, when Tom Wilson hit a Ranger literally 10 seconds later they called the penalty on Wilson. It's just getting laughable now. However, I can't complain about number of calls because atleast they were even, but that was a dangerous hit Orpik took. Thankfully he was fine and played the rest of the way.

*Alex Ovechkin continues to play outstanding hockey. Not only did he get chances but he blocked a shot in the third and is overall defensive game was strong. It has been fun to watch how he has grown as a player this year.

*Matt Niskanen had himself a solid game last night as well. It seemed like the Rangers forwards could not get by him and then when they shot the puck Niskanen blocked it.

*The Caps had about 28 shot blocks last night which goes to show you the commitment this team has to winning this spring.

*Overall it was a fun game even though it was a nail bitter at the end. It was a very entertaining game for a game that was 1-0, but that's why hockey is great. Even in a low scoring game a lot is going on. It is a huge win for the Caps as they have an opportunity to put the Rangers in a hole if they can win on Wednesday.
