The Caps got back in the win column last night after another slow start and sloppy puck handling they were able to get a late goal from Alex Ovechkin to take two points from the Islanders.
My Thoughts:
*Caps got off to a slow start again and gave up the first goal once again as former Cap Mikail Grabovski scored to give the Isles a 1-0.
*The Caps though did respond as Nick Backstrom made a nice play to feed T.J Oshie to tie the game. It was important last night for the Caps not to fall behind like they did against the Panthers.
*Andre Burakvosky has been on fired lately as he was able to score his 9th goal of the season. Chimera and Orlov got the assists on the goal.
*The Caps had trouble handling the puck all night, in fact the puck at times bounced like a basketball. Verizon Center has had ice issues before but it seems the last two games it hasn't been great. Along with the fact that the Caps are still a little rusty. Hopefully that will change after last night.
*The Islanders were able to tie the game early in the third period, and then the rest of the game was back and forth chances. Then Nick Backstrom found OV for his 29th goal of the season at the 17:20 mark of the third period.
*The Caps didn't play a perfect game last night however their effort was good and they started working their way out of the rust. Defensively they were very good with over 30 shots blocked last night.
*Braden Holtby was solid in his return as he stopped 24 of 26 shots, and it was a few big saves late in the game that helped seal the win.
*Overall its good for the Caps to have the winning taste back in their mouths. Keeping losing streaks at a minimum has been a key for this team all season long. It was also huge to get two points and not only that win in regulation. We will see if this can start a new winning streak.
