The Caps scored a late goal in the third and killed off a overtime power play to keep the game alive. Then in a shootout Alex Ovechkin put the game away for their second win in a row.
My Thoughts:
*Andre Burakovsky is turning a corner as he scored his 10th goal of the season, and has goals in his last 4 or so games. Playings on the second line with Kuznetsov and Williams is definitely helping with his confidence.
*Braden Holtby was good yesterday though he didn't even face his first shot till 8:00 to go in the first period. Holtby finished the game making 22 saves on 24 shots in the win.
*The Caps had the lead but then let off the gas pedal a bit by letting the Devils score twice to take a 2-1 lead. To the Caps credit though they never gave up and then started to get a little bit going against the Devils defense.
*Paul Carey tied the game at the 14:07 mark of the third period off a nice deflection off a pass from Matt Niskanen. For Carey it was his first NHL goal and it came at a big time, he has had to good year in Hershey and was rewarded with another call up.
*Again it was not a pretty win but all that matters is the two points, and with a second win in a row maybe the guys are starting to get back on track a bit.
*Good news on the injury front as it appears that Brooks Orpik and Marcus Johansson will make the road trip this week as the Caps will visit Nashville, Minnesota, and Dallas next week after today's game.
*Overall this is good the Caps have the winning taste again, and it is good that they are playing a lot of games this week so that they can get back in the groove.
