Postgame Recap: Caps 3 Flyers 2

The Caps and Flyers met once again on Super Bowl Sunday to renew their rivalry. Though the Caps would give up the first goal, they would turn things around. Then a beautiful goal from an unexpected player lifted them to a 3-2 win in front of a sold out crowd at Verizon Center.

My Thoughts:

*Caps got off to a slow start, and then Michael Del Zotto gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead after the first period. It carried over little bit in the second period as well.

*The game would take a turn as the Caps were called for too many men while being short handed. The Flyers would have a 53 second 5 on 3 in which the Caps would kill it off. This would again be what ignited the Caps.

*Shortly after the kill Alex Ovechkin would deflect a Karl Alzner shot for his 30th goal of the season to tie the game at 1.

*About a minute later Andre Burakovsky and the Caps second line pinned in the Flyers, and wore them down. A few seconds later Burakovsky found Dmitry Orlov who would beat Steve Mason for his 5th goal of the season to give the Caps a 2-1 lead after 2.

*The Flyers would tie it early in the third with a goal from Nick Schultz, however the Caps were starting to tilt the ice after that and then got a big play.

*Five minutes after the Flyers tied it Matt Niskanen took the puck and found some space, the Caps had a 3 on 2 but the Flyers left Niskanen uncovered. What happened was Niskanen decided he can do it himself and scored a beautiful goal as he took the puck to the net and beat Steve Mason to give the Caps a 3-2 lead in the third.

*The Flyers would have a couple chances on Braden Holtby and company but they would stand strong and the Caps would get their third win in a row.

*Overall the Caps end the week with 3 straight wins after a tough loss to Florida on Tuesday. They didn't play their best hockey but are still just finding ways to win. That at the end of the day is really all that matters. Now they will hit the road.
