Postgame Recap: Caps 5 Flyers 2

The Caps rebounded from a loss Tuesday with a dominant performance in Philadelphia. Despite giving the Flyers two leads it appeared the Caps had the edge, then a second period explosion would prove to be the difference as the Caps were able to get two points on the road.

My Thoughts:

*Jason Chimera was the difference last night with two goals and an assist. Barry Trotz wanted more net presence on the power play so he put Jason Williams and Jason Chimera on the second unit and it paid off with two goals.

*Justin Williams has quietly been a point per game guy, last night he added a goal and assist of his own and put a lot of pressure on the for-check.

*Evgeny Kuznetsov is turning into a stud, he made his wrap around pass again last night to set up T.J Oshie, and then on the power play set up Jason Chimera on an entry. If he continues this pace he may put up 90 to 100 points this year.

*Tom Wilson got himself into trouble again last night by taking a bad charging penalty late in the first period. However, it seemed to put a fire under him because he played a solid game and responded with two assists. The last one lead to a Nick Backstrom goal that put the game away, where Wilson on the for-check stripped the puck from the defender where he fed Marcus Johansson who found Nick Backstrom to put the game away.

*Karl Alzner had a great game on the back end last night. In the first period when the Flyers had four power plays Alzner was blocking shots left and right. Also he broke up a two on one in the third when the game was still a two goal game.

*Braden Holtby did have a ton of action last night but in the third period when the Flyers tried to make a push Holtby made a few huge saves. Most notably his save in front against Matt Reid just before Nick Backstrom got the fifth and deciding goal.

*Overall I was very pleased with the way the Caps played coming off of a loss on Tuesday, they continue to get right back after taking a step back. They had their skating legs and pressured the Flyers all night. Even when the team trailed I had the feeling that as long as they stay out of the penalty box then they would be fine. So, in the second period they were able to take over. Another big two points with the Rangers winning yet again last night.
