Postgame Recap: Caps 3 Maple Leafs 2 SO

A wild one at Verizon Center on Saturday ended when Alex Ovechkin scored in the shootout and Braden Holtby shut the door to give the Caps a great come from behind win. If it wasn't for Nick Backstrom 's goal with 0.8 seconds left in the third we would be talking about a disappointing loss. But, the Caps overcame a denied goal and still were able to grab two points.

My Thought's:

*Alex Ovechkin scored career goal #483 to tied Sergei Federov for the all-time lead among Russian scorers. It appeared that he passed him with a goal with 2:30 minutes left but a coaches challenge determined that Justin Williams interfered with goalie James Reimer.

*Evgeny Kuznetsov had an assist but I think his soccer style keep in on the last shift was a huge play in the final sequence.

*Nick Backstrom is still a underrated player for the Caps but boy did he come up big. Backs always plays a solid two way game and he came up huge. Oh and he added another assist as well.

*Justin Williams talke about how he is unhappy with his play but in my opinion he has still been a valuable player for the Caps, his interference that waived off the goal in the third to me should have been a goal based on other calls I have seen this season. However, when the game was on the line he made a big pass to get the puck to the net for Backstrom to tie it. His goals will come.

*T.J Oshie added an assist, and was apart of the tying goal making a pass out of the corner to get the puck to Justin Williams.

*Tom Wilson didn't see the ice much in the third period after taking a dumb penalty that lead the the Leafs taking a lead on the power play. Wilson was caught up with Leafs center Nazem Kadri and got up and gave him a bear hug. In that situation Willy was frustrated because Dion Phanuf got under his skin a few minutes before that. Wilson has been having a bit of a rough start but he's young and still has talent to develop, he will be needed as the season goes on.

*The Hershey Bears had a 3-0 lead against the St. John's Ice Caps but lost 4-3 on a shoot out. Stan Galiev  now has 3 goals in two games since being sent down for a conditioning stint. The Bears are 6-3-0-3 on the season so far with 3 shootout losses.

*Overall the Caps did not play perfect by any means but it was another big two points in the standing that you will take everyday of the week. I have always hear that the mark of a good team is when you don't plays your best and still finds a way to win. It was a tough start to the week with the loss in New York but it ends with two home wins.
