Game 3 Notes: Washington Capitals at. Pittsburgh Penguins

The series is now in Pittsburgh as both teams picked up a win in Washington. The Caps will be without defensemen Brooks Orpik because of a hit he put on Olli Matta of the Pens. Who will most likely be out tonight as well. Here is the projected lineup for tonight.

Forwards:

Ovechkin-Backstrom-Oshie
Johansson-Kuznetsov-Williams
Chimera-Richards-Burakovsky
Winnik-Beagle-Wilson

Defense and Goalies:

Alzner-Niskanen
Schmidt-Carlson
Orlov-Chorney

Holtby
Grubauer

Other Notes:

*Caps did not do well when it came to puck possession in Game 2, they will need to do better here in Game 3 or they will have a tough time generating offense.

*Braden Holtby was great on Saturday, the Caps just need to start scoring more goals and they will be in better shape. They have been getting the goaltending just no giving him much help.

*Without Orpik the Caps defense corps will have to step up their game. Most notably I think we need to see Dmitry Orlov play better so that he can regain his spot in the lineup. He has the tools he just needs to get the job done.

*Matt Murray has indeed been solid for the Pens, but was not tested much in Game 2. In my opinion he gave up some goals that he should have got in Game 1, Caps just need more pressure on him.

*I thought that as a defense the Caps did better in Game 2, however going back to puck possession. The Caps got caught on a late shift once so they need to get pucks and get them out of their defensive zone. That way the Pens won't generate a scoring chance late in a shift.

*Its simple, Alex Ovechkin, Evgeny Kuznetsov, and Justin Williams need to come to play. That have been quiet, if they can get going the Caps will have a much better chance of winning this series.

*Overall the Caps need to just play better, this is going to be a close series but I think the Caps can make it tougher on the Pens than what they have done so far. The Caps won 56 games during the regular season because they do have the talent. That is even without Brooks Orpik, we will see if the boys can bounce back.
