The Caps would have a very special night Saturday in St. Louis. Even though they would give up the first goal 1:15 into the game. The Caps dominated in a rout of the Blues who were aiming for a division title.
My Thoughts:
*First off Braden Holtby won his 48th game of the season, tying Martin Brodeur for the most wins by a goalie in a season in NHL history. Now the debate will be if Holts plays tonight to have a chance to break the record. We will see what Barry Trotz decides.
*Another big moment as Alex Ovechkin scored a hat trick for goals #48,49, and 50. For OV it is the 7th time in his career that he has hit 50 goals or more. Also, he will once again win the Rocket Richard Trophy.
*John Carlson scored his 8th goal of the season on a nice give and go with Tom Wilson which at the time gave the Caps a 3-1 lead.
*Jason Chimera hit a milestone with his 20th goal of the season to make it 4-1 in the second period.
*Nick Backstrom also picked up his 48th, 49th, and 50th assists last night has he assisted on all of OV's goals.
*Last night was huge for the Caps, the Blues had the division and possible home ice advantage at stake. Instead the Caps dominated the game and looked like the team they were a couple months ago which is a huge relief.
*We learned yesterday that the Caps will face their bitter rival, the Philadelphia Flyers in the 1st Round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs which will start next week. We will know later when it will start but it won't be Wednesday because the Wizards have Verizon Center that night.
*One thing that was concerning about last night is Jay Beagle took a shot off the foot and left the game. I have not heard anything on his status. So, hopefully we find out today and it won't be that bad. We all can hope.
*Overall it was great to see the Caps get back on track, it was a special night of milestones. Only one more game let before the real season begins.
What's Next: Tonight vs. Anaheim 7:30 p.m on CSN
